Court report of TRM's Rurik and Angelik from Pennsic War XXXVI held August 4th -10th, A.S. 42 in the Shire of Sunderoak as reported by THL Matilda Bosvyle de Bela Acqua, Silver Buccle, with the able assistance of THLord Brandubh O'Donnghaile, Baroness Giulietta da Venezia,  Lord Robert O'Connor, Countess Caryl Olesdattir, Lord Finn Folhare and Lord Stephen Calvert deGrey.

Saturday the 4th

In the morning, on the Hound Coursing Field

Lady Tomassa of Atlantia was made a Companion of the Keystone for service to AEthelmearc and Atlantia with regard to the pursuit of hound coursing.

At Midday, in the Royal Encampment

Padashaw, M.K.A. Kenneth Weaver, received the Greater Royal Sanction of Absolute Banishment.

Sunday the 5th

In the evening during the BMDL reception, in the Royal Encampment

A Writ of Laurel was given by Their Majesties to Baron Leonard the Younger for his studies of Viking Arts and Culture, and he was commanded to sit vigil in contemplation of elevation to that Peerage. (rock calligraphed by Hrefna in heppna Thorgrimmsdottir, text by Duncan Blackwater)

Lord Giovanni di Lupo was awarded a Keystone for his service in kitchens, on target ranges and fencing lists. (scroll Sophie Davenport)

Monday the 6th

Midday following the Castle Battle, at the Castle Gate

Their Majesties called forth all members of the Order of Chivalry present and inquired if it was their wish that a candidate be sent to vigil that evening. Upon their collective affirmation, His Royal Highness, Duncan von Halstern was asked to present Himself before the Court. His Majesties instructed Him to sit vigil in the castle tower, receive the council of the Chivalry, contemplate elevation to Their Order and give answer to Their Majesties the following day.

Evening, at the camp of Clan Yama Kaminari

Baroness Una de Saint Luc was called forward and sent to sit vigil for the Order of the Laurel. Dark-thirty during the AEthelmearc reception, in the Royal Encampment

Lord Iain Ard mac an Bhaird was created a Companion of the Keystone for service to the Dominion of Myrkfaelinn and to the Kingdom as co-head of the AEthelmearc Brewers Guild (scroll: Alessandra Bentivegna da Faenza, text: Brandubh O'Donnghaile).


Tuesday the 7th

Midday, on the field

Boden was Awarded Arms for his contribution as a heavy weapons fighter.

Lord Vladimir Mechnik, called Two Swords, was inducted into the Order of the Gage and Granted Arms for valor and skill at heavy weapons combat.

A short time later, still on the field Lady Alessandra Bentivegna da Faenza was called before Their Majesties and created a member of the Order of the White Scarf for her intimidating skill in the art of Fence.

Evening Court, in the Barn

THL Robert Marston, AEthelmearc's Kingdom Chirurgeon, came before the court to recognize the accomplishments of  Lord Liam Mac an Tsaoir and Lord Philipe the Shamed, who have each achieved the status of Mentor Chirurgeon.

Baron Leonard the Younger was invited before Their Majesties to answer if he would accept the honor They wished to bestow upon him. Having obtained his agreement, Their Majesties called for those who would speak to his worth. Baron Fridrikr Tomasson av Knusslig Hamn read a praise poem about Baron Leonard, commissioned by Baron Tofi Kerthjalfadsson. Baron Graedwynn mab Terynon spoke of his chivalry, Countess Genevieve du Vent Argent spoke of his service, King Rurik spoke of his inspiration and Master Duncan Blackwater spoke of his art. He was then adorned with the medallion  and cloak of the Laurel and swore his fealty to the Crown upon his own sword.

Lady Clarissa da Svizzera and Lord Coinneach Mac an Leigh requested the signatures of Their Majesties upon documents which would allow and entitle them to return their citizenship and allegiance to AEthelmearc. Their Majesties were most pleased to grant this small favor.

Baron Aaron faheud Swiftrunner brought before the court a short tale of Her Majesties greatness, of how She was able to sweep evil from the land, and for this feat he presented Her with a gem as radiant as Herself.

Osa of the Greenland was Awarded Arms for her service (large wooden chest by Stefan Ulfkellson).

Mawsho Pischunk was Awarded Arms for his service (large wooden chest by Stefan Ulfkellson).

Sondra Gullveig of Endless Hills was inducted into the Order of the Sycamore and Awarded Arms for her skill at sewing Viking style clothes. (scoll: Ismay Ponde, Text: Jehan de la Marche)

Lady Marian of Steltonwald was inducted into the Order of the Keystone for her work with our youth and her service to the sewing group.

Daniel O'Rian the Fletcher was Awarded Arms for his musical talents.

Lady Christine MacGregor was inducted into the Order of the Keystone for her service as Chatelain and Youth Marshal.

Lord Roland of Foxesglen was inducted into the Order of the Keystone for his service at events (scroll: Magnus Tindal and Etain ingen Dalaig).

Lady Maria Piekneplotno was created a member of the Order of the Millrind and Granted Arms for her extraordinary service as Exchequer.

Sir Khalek Shurrag Od was added to the Order of the Millrind for his years of dedicated service as knight marshal (scroll: Alessandra Bentivegna da Faenza) .

Baron Vladisla Nikulich was established as a member of the Order of the Millrind for his exemplary service as Seneschal and Knight Marshal (scroll: Una de Saint Luc, text: Ogami Akira).

Baroness Aleea Baga was heralded into court and after affirming that it was her wish to join the Order of the Pelican, His Majesty declared that she was worthy and called for those members of the Pelican present  to witness as she was bedecked in a robe and the ancestral medallion. A second medallion was presented by Master Jacopo di Niccolo. Their Majesties then heard her fealty oath.

Their Majesties invited before them THL Filip of the Marche. Following in the steps of an elaborate and musical procession, Filip presented gifts of bread and cheese to the nobility upon the dais. He then affirmed that he had sat in contemplation and received the council of the Peers and that he would be most honored to join the Order of the Pelican. These gentles did speak to his worth: Mistress Achren Ancyros for the Laurel, Sir Angus MacBain for the Chivalry, Countess Morgen of Rye for the Royal Peers and Master Edmund Tregelles for the Pelicans. His Majesty called for a kaftan, a shapka and the ancestral medallion to adorn Boyar Filip, after which They received his oath of fealty upon the Sword of State (scroll by Aibell Suil-uaine).

Baroness Cori Ghora stepped forward to beg a boon of Their Majesties. She declared that there was a lady present who she had done all she could with and could help no further. A lady who was ready to be elevated to the Pelican. Their Majesties invited Baroness Gillian Llwelyn of Ravenspur before them and instructed her to sit vigil, receive council and return her answer to Them at Summer's End.

Baroness Una de Saint Luc was commanded to appear before the court and stand while Their Majesties heard of her worth from members of the Peerage: Duchess Dorinda Courtenay, a Lady of the Rose; Sir Ogami Akira, a member of the Chivalry; Viscount Edward Zifran of Gendy, a member of the Order of the Pelican; Master Brendan Brisbane, a Member of the Order of the Laurel. Master Brendan released Una from his service. Their Majesties called forth the Order of the Laurel and received their affirmation that she was worthy of their ranks and that she had sat vigil and listened to their council. Regalia befitting her new station was bestowed upon her: a coat, a wreath and a medallion of the Laurel (once worn by another former Signet Clerk). Their Majesties heard her oath of fealty (scroll by Jonathan Blakeston, text by: Ogami Akira).

THL Antoinette de la Croix was invited into court, and returned to His Majesty the remains of the apple he had given her as she sit vigil in contemplation of elevation to the Order of the Laurel. Count Henri d'Artois spoke for the Chivalry, Countess Morgan of Rye read the words of Royal Peer Countess Elspeth Turnbull, Dame Catelin Parry spoke for the Pelican, Erwilliom MacFergus and Mistress Alicia Langland spoke for the Laurel. Having heard these words of her worth, Their Majesties saw to it that she was adorned with the symbol of her new Order in the form of a cloak, a wreath and a pin (as well as the Signet Clerk's medallion so recently given).

Their Royal Majesties sought consultation with those members of the Order of Chivalry present. His Royal Highness, Duncan von Halstern, heir to the Throne of AEthelmearc was summoned and questioned by King Rurik, if he was prepared to accept inclusion in this Order. As to His worthiness, these gentles did step forward to speak: Laurel – Baroness Camilla von Anderlich, Pelican – Baroness Aoibhel of Dun Holen, Royal Peers – Duke Darius Aurelius and Count Christopher Rawlins, Chivalry – Baron Graedwynn mab Terynon,  Baron Manfred von Halsstern and Sir Hryngar Aelfson. His Highness received the symbols of Knighthood: spurs (from Baron Manfred), belt (from Count Maynard von demStein), ancestral chain (lineage recited by Sir Khalek) and cloak (from the hand of Princess Ilish)  He swore his fealty to the Crown as a Knight and His Majesty then dealt  the Royal buffet. Wednesday the 8th

Midday, on the battlefield

Lord Olafr Thorvardarson was made a companion of The Golden Alce, and awarded the Order of Merit for Martial Authenticity for his dedication to Viking culture.

Afternoon, on the archery range

Lord Urho Waltterinen was made a companion of the Keystone and granted inclusion to the Order of the Scarlet Guard for dedicated service to the archery community.


Thursday the 9th

In the afternoon, during the reception for Pennsic War staff in the Royal Encampment

Baron Illiame Uaine received a Royal Augmentation of Arms in the form of a stone.

Viscount Edward Zifran of Gendy received a Royal Augmentation of Arms in the form of a stone.

Lord Svenki received the King's Award of Excellence.

Viscondessa Isabella Falco deh Galinha received a Royal Augmentation of Arms in the form of a stone.

Gregor "Tree" MacLey received the King's Award of Excellence.

Lady Magdalena Winter received a Royal Augmentation of Arms in the form of a stone.

John Skinner of Rivenstar received the King's Award of Excellence.

Baroness Una de Saint Luc received the King's Award of Excellence. Their Royal Majesties Ansteora delivered unto her words of greeting from Master Erastus Erasimus von Eisenwald uber Tauberbrschofsheim on the occasion of her elevation to the Laurel.

Dutchess Caitlin Stuart received the King's Award of Excellence.

Baroness Brise Sanguin received a Royal Augmentation of Arms in the form of a stone.

Master Cathin MacCullaich received a Royal Augmentation of Arms in the form of a stone.

Baron Angus Tailor received the King's Award of Excellence.

Master Ian the Fariner received the King's Award of Excellence.

Master Vorlin o'r Gwig received the King's Award of Excellence.

Baron Bruci of Dragonvale received a Royal Augmentation of Arms in the form of a stone.

Lady Mathildis De'Ath received the King's Award of Excellence.

Dame Hrodny Rognvaldsdottir received the King's Award of Excellence.

Baron Devon Adair Bartholomy received the King's Award of Excellence.

Lord Morgan De'Ath received the King's Award of Excellence.

Baroness Rosamund Beauvisage received the King's Award of Excellence.

Sir Gregory of Loch Swan received a Royal Augmentation of Arms in the form of a stone.

Evening, during the Khan's Court, in the camp of the Great Dark Horde

Paco de Monte received an Award of Arms for valor upon the field. Their Majesties gifted the Khan with pieces of armor (donated by Count Christopher Rawlins) and gave personal tokens of thanks to the various Martial Khans.

The Great Dark Horde was awarded the Order of the Keystone for service.

Their Majesties received a gift of "apple pie".


Friday the 10th In the evening, at Closing Ceremonies in the Barn

Their Majesties spoke words of thanks to all those who attended the Pennsic War, and Her Majesty particularly thanked the staff of Pennsic 36 who all gave of their time and effort so that we could all enjoy the experience. Court was Closed.
