Court Reports of the Kingdom of
AEthelmearc
Christopher and Morgen II
April 18th, AS 43 (2009)
Coronation of Maynard II and Liadain
Barony of the Rhydderich Hael
Court report of TRM’s Christopher & Morgen
from the
Coronation of Maynard & Liadain on April 18th A.S. 43 held in the
Barony of
the Rhydderich Hael as reported by THL Matilda Bosvyle de Bela Acqua,
Silver
Buccle, with the assistance of THLord Brandubh O’Donnghaile.
The AEthelmearc Privateers (LLC) presented Their
Majesties
with a share of the recyclable goods they’d found on sunken ships
within, or
reasonably near, the territorial waters of the Kingdom. Their Majesties
were
pleased by this bounty and the efforts of their naval security force.
Master
Morien ap Rhys
requested the Crown and populace bear witness as Lady Roxane de St. Luc
accepted a belt from him as his apprentice. Their Majesties wished them
both
well in their future endeavors.
Prince Maynard
arrived at court to lay His claim to the Throne of AEthelmearc. While
the
Kingdom has prospered under the rule of Christopher
and Morgen, His Highness had answered Their test of skill and honor
upon the
field, besting all comers at Their Crown Tournament. This was verified
by
THLady Allesandra
d’Avignon and Sir Bear
the Wallsbane as representatives of the Offices of Seneschal and Earl Marshal.
Their Majesties’ Herald did concur as well. His Highness did withdraw
temporarily to allow Their Majesties to complete Their business before
the assembly.
Their Majesties noted the 20th
anniversary of the
appointment of our Lady Protector, Mistress Cassadoria Finialla,
at the very birth of our Principality, now Kingdom of AEthelmearc.
Sir
Maghnus an Chnoic na n’Iora
was
created a Baron of the Court for his long and steadfast service to
AEthelmearc
(scroll illum Gillian
Llwelyn, calig Mary Elizabeth Clason)
THLady
Allessandra d’Avignon was
created
a Baroness of the Court for her unfailing service to Their Majesties as
head of
Their retinue (scroll in progress by Ekaterina Volkova
and Boudiccea
Ravenhair).
Duchess Sir Rowan de la Garnison
was invited into
Their Majesties’ presence to give answer as to whether she would accept
inclusion as a companion of the Order of the Laurel.
Before she could speak, His Majesty reminded Her Grace, that she was in
fealty
to Him, and that it was His express wish that she accept. With a smile
and much
humility, she wisely agreed with His Majesty, that she would be most
honored to
accept such accolade. His Majesty
requested to hear the opinions of the Peers. Viscount
Alexander Caithnes
of Wyk spoke for the Royal Peers about the generosity and graciousness
with
which Rowan had served as Queen, not once, but twice. Sir Angus MacBain
spoke for the Chivalry of how
greatly he has been inspired by her spirit and kindness. On behalf of
the Order
of the Pelican, Mistress Arianna
of Wynthrope allowed the populace to voice their opinion regarding how
they
have benefited from Her Grace’s service to the Society. And lastly Viscountess Judith
of Kirtland
remarked that Rowan’s culinary research and talent for making period
recipes
palatable for even her husband had long indicated that she was to be a
companion of the Laurel.
Their Majesties called for appropriate regalia to present to her Grace so all would know of the esteem in
which she is
held. The ancestral medallion came by messenger from the heart of
Baroness
Daedra McBeth a Gryphon; a wreath of laurel leaves (for cooking) was
created by
Dame Brigit MacLean; a cloak from the hand of Baroness Alison of the
Many Isles
(and several other embroiderers) was placed upon her shoulders by
Duchess
Meirwen uerch Owein; and as tradition in AEthelmearc dictates, His
Majesty
called for the ancestral Fruitcake to be gifted to Her Grace. Rowan then swore a new oath upon the sword of
state and was presented to the court as a Mistress of the Laurel
(scroll by Yvianne
de Castel d’Avignon,
wording by Mahin
Banu Tabrizi).
Their Majesties gave Sigils to the following
people in
gratitude for their assistance to the Crown during the 11 months past:

Their Majesties dismissed Their personal retainers
with
thanks for their generous service.
His Majesties dismissed the Queens
guards along with their Captain, Lord Kaminari
no Shiro.
Their Majesties requested the populace join them
in remembrance
of those who have passed from this earth, but not from our hearts in
recent
months.
His Majesty composed Himself and spoke the words
in His
heart, thanking His Queen and inspiration, Morgan,
for standing with him during Their reign, and promised Her that she
would
always be his Queen. He removed the Crown from her brow and assured her
that he
would join her in retirement shortly.
King Christopher
called upon his heirs, Prince Maynard
and Princess Liadain
once more. As His Highness kneeled before one and all, Christopher
removed the Prince’s coronet, and replaced it with the Crown of
AEthelmearc
declaring Maynard our 24th King. With a bow to His Majesty, Christopher retired from the hall.
