Letter of Intent #101
Aryanhwy merch Catmael

1. Barbary Rose - The submitted spelling can be documented in
my "Index of Names in the 1582 Subsidy Roll of London"
which lists three Englishwomen named <Barbary>. (The same
article also has <Rose> as a surname, making this an excellent
late-16th C English feminine name).

Unfortunately, it conflicts with <Barbara atte Rose> (reg. 01/1998
via Caid). The given names are insignificantly different in
spelling (the difference of one letter is not a significant difference),
and <atte Rose> and <Rose> are considered equivalent, because prepositions
and articles do not contribute to difference.

Vs. Hinterland, Shire of (reg. 09/1995 via the Outlands), "Gules, a
dragon dormant in annulo and a bordure rayonny Or," there's one CD
for the posture of the dragon and another for the type of secondary.
Vs. Dragon's Laire, Barony of (reg. 10/1983 via An Tir), "Per pale
gules and sable, a two-headed dragon displayed Or, grasping in dexter
forepaw a laurel wreath vert and in sinister forepaw a moneybag gules,"
with one CD for the field and another for adding the secondary. These
were the closest I found.

2. Clarice Roan - This definitely fixes the previous problems.
This is clear of David of Bagulay (reg. 04/2006 via the West),
"Per fess azure and argent, a dove rising, wings displayed, and
three lozenges all counterchanged," with CDs for the type, number,
and tincture of the primaries. Vs. Damhnat Bebhinn Nic Oisdealbhaigh
(reg. 08/1986 via the East), "Per fess azure and argent, in pale an
eagle striking, wings addorsed, bearing in its beak a heart Or, and a
double-rose sable, barbed and seeded proper," with CDs for the type
and tincture of the primaries. These were the closest I found.

3. Clarice Roan - Likewise I see no problems or conflicts with the
badge.

4. Gunnar of the Endless Hills - The name is registerable as
submitted, but <Gunnar> isn't Icelandic or Viking-era - it's late-
period and Swedish. The Icelandic form is <Gunnarr>, as found in
Geirr Bassi.

The purpure looks like a very dark azure on my monitor; is the
actual emblazon better?

This is clear of Frederic Martel (reg. 11/1996 via Calontir), "Sable,
two horses combatant and on a chief argent three roses proper," with
a CD for the field and one for the tincture of the horses. I found
nothing else closer.

5. Onóra inghean Chonaill - Vs. Karen of the Emerald Sea (reg. 01/
1985 via the West), "Vert, a seahorse erect argent and a chief invected
Or," there's one CD for the type of chief and another for adding the
tertiaries. This was the closest I found.

6. Verederosa Dal Sol - Nice name! I found no conflicts with the arms.

That's all for this month!
