Æthelmearc Letter of Report Æ101
January 25, 2007 (AS 41)

Greetings from Garnet and Cornelian,

We would very much like to thank those who commented on these items: Aryanhwy merch Catmael, The Heronter Heralds Commenting Group, and Myfanwy ferch Rhiannon!

The items accepted on this letter have been forwarded to Laurel for further consideration, where we expect they will be decided on in May of 2007.

1.  Barbary Rose of the Endless Hills – New Name Accepted with Change, Device Accepted

Gules, a dragon displayed and in chief a rose Or.

The name, as submitted, <Barbary Rose>, unfortunately conflicts with <Barbara atte Rose> (01/1998 Caid). The difference in spelling of the given name is not a significant difference, and the elimination of the preposition does not count for difference.

Although the submitter did not allow major changes, she specifically allowed the addition of <of the Endless Hills> on her submission forms. We apologize that this information was omitted from the ILoI.

After further consultation with the submitter, she has decided to further allow the elimination of the definite article from the byname phrase, if necessary. We are unsure whether the definite article needs to be eliminated for registerablility, in light of the fact that the group name does not include it. We have elected to leave the byname phrase as submitted and we ask Pelican for clarification.

2.  Clarice Roan – Resubmitted Device Accepted

Per fess azure and argent, a dove rising wings displayed and inverted argent and a serpent embowed counter-embowed gules.

3.  Clarice Roan – New Badge Accepted

(Fieldless) A dove rising wings displayed and inverted argent sustaining in its claws a serpent embowed counter-embowed gules.

4.  Gunnarr of the Endless Hills – New Name Accepted with Change, Device Accepted

Purpure, two horses combattant Or and on a chief argent, four roses gules.

The given name was originally submitted as <Gunnar>, which is a late-period Swedish spelling. The submitter indicated an interest in, but did not request authenticity to, Viking/Icelandic language and culture. After further consultation with the submitter, we have the changed the name to <Gunnarr>, as documented in Geirr Bassi, to reflect his interest in Viking language and culture.

Regarding the byname phrase, we are unsure whether the definite article needs to be eliminated for registerablility, in light of the fact that the group name does not include it. We have elected to leave the byname phrase as submitted and we have asked Pelican for clarification.

5.  Onóra inghean Chonaill – New Device Accepted

Vert, a seahorse argent and on a chief Or three shamrocks vert.

6. Verederosa Dal Sol – New Nameand Device Accepted

Per fess argent and vert, a rose vert barbed and seeded and a sun in splendor Or.

Additional item accepted directly at kingdom:

Tuathflaith ingen uí Chellaich – Device Resubmission

Per bend sinister purpure and azure, a bend sinister argent between a sprig of three oak leaves bendwise inverted Or and a stag's head couped, a bordure argent.

This item was returned at Laurel in September 2006 for using a tincture halfway between purpure and gules. The device had been redrawn at kingdom, the forms being generated on a color printer. In so doing, a shade of purpure was chosen that leaned too much toward gules to be distinctly purpure.

For resubmission, the forms have been regenerated, using Crayola markers for the coloring.

Since this item has already been approved within kingdom, and because the reason for return does not indicate a need for further commentary, we are accepting this directly and forwarding it to Laurel.

This concludes our Letter of Report Æ 9101 dated January 25, 2007.
