Heronter Heralds Commenting Group

Unto Garnet Herald and the Aethelmearc College of Arms;
Greetings from the Heronter Heralds. Herein, our commentary on AE ILoI #108

1: Alexander MacDougall - New Name

No problems found.

2: AlŒme bint Yorgi - New Name

No problems found.

3: Eilion¢ra Ghorm inghean Phaid¡n - New Name & New Device

Name: While we can see "Fred the Red" for red-hair, and "Clair the Fair" for fair skin, we're having a bit of a difficulty with "Eleanor the Blue" for blue eyes. Wouldn't a translation of "Eleanor the Blue-Eyed" be more likely?

Device: "Per chevron throughout argent and azure, a decrescent argent and on a chief sable three triquetras argent."

No conflicts found

4: Florian du Pompier - New Name Change

Name: *Ahem!* In the first place, the name would more likely be Florian le Pompier, "Florian _the_ firefighter", instead of Florian du Pompier, "Florian _of the_ firefighter". However, a quick Google check on Florian & Firefighters, brought us to the wikipedia page on St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Florian). The Cross of St. Florian is the traditional framework for fire department emblems. "Florian of the Firefighters" has to be a direct reference to this saint. If he wants to be a saint, he has to perform three miracles. The first will be getting this name to pass! :D

5: Gr¡mkell Bogsveigir - New Name & New Device

Name: No problems with the submitted name. However, we'd like to point out that the reference is Land_n_amabok or "The Book of Names of the Land". Is Landmamabok, "The Book of Mothers of the Land"? :D :D :D

12: Robert l'Etourdi - New Device

Device: "Vert, six bezants one, two and three and on a chief Or three pellets."

The submitter was told that "three, two and one" was more typical heraldry. He responded that he wants his pile of gold, and now he has the gunstones to defend it! :D :D :D

13: Thorgrim Varghosson - New Name & New Device

No problems found.

Device: "Sable, two boar's heads couped close and addorsed and on a bordure Or three crosses crosslet fitchy sable."
