Quick Notes on ILOI # 119
1. Angellino the bookmaker.
I don't believe that the citation from Juliana de Luna truly
supports the doubled -ll-. If it cited a name with "ange-"
followed by
the doubled -ll- I'd be more inclined to give it credence.
However,
"Angnellus" is different, due to the extra syllable.
Aryanhwy's citation is more pertinent.
"the boomaker" - double meaning intended or not, I find it
obtrusivly modern, unless there is a citation supporting gambling
as a
profession. Othewise, I cannot support this and would return it.
3. Bjorn Vestarson
The device is clear of Selva of the Treeless Plain: Vert,
semé of
tree stumps snagged eradicated proper, in saltire two axes Or.
There is one for the removal of the field treatment & one for the
addition of the chief.
6. Esa Baird
Close but clear of: Megge de Northwode: Azure, three owls within
a bordure argent.
One for removing the bordure and one for the field treatment.
8. Vulcan's Forge.
All I have is that "forge" is a period English word, dating from the
15th c., from the
OF forge, which in turn is from the Latin fabrica. This from the
Concise OED.
I'm not all that certain about the formation as a College name or
Shire name. However, I'd think that we can justify the name in a
formation like an Inn name.
