Letter of Intent #38
Heraldic Flying Circus Commenting Group

Unto the AEthelmearc College of Heralds, Margaret Makafee, Silver Buccle Herald and Dagonell Collingwood, Garnet Herald; greetings from The Heraldic Flying Circus and Moving Company led by Dagonell Collingwood????
When Otfrid called and said he couldn't make the heraldry meeting, and could I run it in his place, I said "Sure, no problem." It wasn't until after I had hung up the phone that I realized I had just promised to write a letter from myself ... to myself. "Dear Dagonell, Having a Wonderful Time, Wish You Were ... oh, never mind." :-) Without further ado, commentary on ILoI #A38.

01) Aleshondra Teodorous -- (name) We can't see "sh" for "ss" in Italian, it sounds more Eastern to us. The "t" is more Italian than the Greek "th", however the "ous" for "us" is not Italian/Latin. (device: "Argent, a rose gules, overall two swords in saltire and upon a chief sable three roses argent.") We note that the primary and tertiaries are the same charge. Does this fall under the rule about not having large and small versions, e.g. cat and lion, sword and dagger, together?

03) Astridr Wolfkunzel -- (household name) Wolfgang von Neunkirchen Can you name a household after an individual? OR as an individual? (badge: "Argent, a cross formy sable and on a base embattled gules a wolf courant contourney argent.") The wolf is NOT contourney.

04) Ciarmhac Sayenga -- (name) The name elements feel incompatible. We allow modern Gaelic forms and mundane name elements, but do both together in one name count as two weirdnesses? (device: "Vert, a sun or eclipsed vert and on a chief argent three gouttes-de-sang.") Can you have a sun eclipsed of the field?

05) Daniel of Endless Hills -- (name) If this doesn't pass Laurel, what will she give him as a holding name? :-) (device: "Per fess azure and sable, a demi-sun issuant from line of division or, a winged foot argent.") The foot is contourney.

06) Fiona ingen ui Faolain -- (device: "Or, a pharoah hound statant sable.") What is a "pharoah hound"? We found no reference to it in any SCA heraldry or dog book.

07) Gareth MacDuff -- (device: "Azure, a unicorn rampant a chief invected argent.") The unicornate features need to be emphasized a bit more, more leg tufts and more beard. (badge: "Fieldless, a dexter gauntlet fesswise sable sustaining a unicorn's head erased argent, langued gules, all contourny.") Langed? He needs a tongue!

08) Geraint Morys -- (name) Good thing she doesn't care what the gender is, because Geraint is male. In the future, please specify whether name submitters are male or female.

09) Guillaume de S. Jacques -- (device: "Sable, a lion sejant ermine.") I.P.P.I. (It's pretty, pass it!)

10) Ingiridr Hikri Fridriksdottir -- (device: "Or, a sea-unicorn contourney and in chief four escallops purpure.") The escallops are inverted.

11) Kateryna y Ty Isaf -- (name) The "Y" stands for "the". She's saying she's Katherine, the town of Ty Isaf. Please correct.

13) Phillipa Graves -- (device: "Per saltire argent and vert, four cats couchant sable and argent.") Please re-draw them to look like cats.

15) Sabina de Lyons -- (device: "Gules, three lion's head's caboshed argent.") I.P.P.I. (It's pretty, pass it!)

16) Sven Tyrvisson -- (device: "Purpure, on a pile indented or, a double-headed ax sable.") The pile should have more indentations, this is only a pile dancetty. The axe head should be larger. Neither is worth the bother of re-drawing. In Service, Cigfran Caer Gwalch Dagonell Collingwood Elizabeth Law of Clan Robertson Shahira bint al-Sammad
