Letter of Intent #44
Heraldic Flying Circus Commenting Group

Unto Lord Dagonell Collingwood, Garnet Herald of the glorious Sylvan Kingdom of AEthelmearc, come Greetings from the Heraldic Flying Circus and Moving Company

Here's the commentary on AE44. Please note that we did not do any conflict-checking.

01.) Asme' Scales

New Name: According to Rhonda, the Withy entry cited states that "Esme""was used as a male name until recent times. We were not able to find anything that could justify the E/A switch.

03.) Casa Valdes

New Device: We assume that this is intended to be registered to a household, and therefore should be submitted as a badge. Note that the donkey, as drawn, is passant contourny. It would also be better drawn fully, rather than simply as an outline.

04.) Ceara MacMillan

New Name: Didn't Glynnis go through this with her name? We are unsure of whether the change from "i" to "e" and the dropping of the "n" are a proper feminization of the name.

New Device: The bordure should be drawn larger. The charge is somewhere between a head and a demi-dragon. If it were a head, it wouldn't have wings; if a demi-dragon, it would have forelegs. Also the "erased " neck should be drawn in a more pronounced fashion.

05.) Christopher of York

Device Resub: Note that this is a _natural_ tiger's head.

06.) Corwyn Montgomery

New Device: The chief should be drawn larger. As for the blazon, there is no "proper" for a glove-the tincture should be specified, an arm proper should be pink, and the first "argent" is redundant.

New Badge: The same comments as above on the arm and glove. The bordure should be larger.

07.) Dennis of Greenway

Change of Name: We were unable to find a definitively masculine use of this spelling, but if the submitter is aware of the gender of the name, then OK.

New Device: Note that this is the default position for a sword on a chief- it is not "sinister:". This is a Cross of St. Patrick with a charged chief ("With a snake on it!"-Lontrallo). Although technically clear, we are unsure if this sort of thing should be registerable. Also, what is the tincture of the serpent?

08.) Diolach Macaree

New Device: The position of the pithon, especially the head, is non-standasrd, and we are not sure if it's blazonable.

09.) Dominic McMorland

New Name: We were unable to provide any documentation on "McMorland" that pre-dates 1700.

10.) Eva Goch

New Device: The fess and book should be drawn larger. The book should be blazoned "closed" (and will be fesswise by default, per PicDic).

11.) Filippo de Sancto Marino

New Device: In redesign, note that the rhino head should be blazoned "couped:.

12.)Fionn Harper

New Name: As Cigfran noted, "Fionn" is a male Irish name.

13.)Gareth Kincaid

Device Resub: The bordure should be drawn larger, and the first "counter-changed" is redundant.

New Badge: To match the emblazon, this should be "Per saltire argent and sable....:.Note that this is an armorer's hammer contourny, per PicDic.

14.) Geoffrey Fitzdavid

Device Resub: There was considerable debate over whether it was necessary to blazon this as "per chevron _enhanced_...".

15.) Gi;lles de Beauchamps

New Device: The charge should be blazoned "apanther counter-changed incensed gules". Also note that the panther is "gardant", not "regardant".
