Letter of Intent #47
Heraldic Flying Circus Commenting Group

Unto Lord Dagonell Collingwood, Garnet Herald of the glorious Sylvan Kingdom of AEthelmearc, come Greetings from the Heraldic Flying Circus and Moving Company.

Herewith, our comments on AE #47, dated 25 Dec. 2000:

03.) Alana MacLeland
New Name: "Alana" has been ruled non-SCA-compatible (Laurel cover letter 6/96).

04.) Aldan Kerr
New Name: The documentation is ambiguous as to whether "Aldan" is a given name or a surname.

06.) Allison Poinvillars de Tours
Change of Device: The sprig should be blazoned "vert".

07.) Allesandra d'Avignon
New Name: Submitted documentation does not support the submitted spelling (2 "l"'s, 1 "s").
New Device: The bordure and fret should be the same thickness, and all the ermine spots should point in the same direction.

08.) Charles Andreason
New Name: There was some question whether "Andreason" should have two "s"'s. A check of Geir Bassi was inconclusive, as "Andreas" is not a native Norse name, and the correct formation of its genitive is not covered. If "Charles Anderson" was returned for conflict, wouldn't "Charles Andreason" have the same conflict? Unfortunately, there is no submission for "Charles Anderson" on the Laurel letter of 11/96.

09.) Daimh{i'}n Sinna
New Name: Is there any evidence that either of these names was widely used, rather than being unique to the cited individuals?

15.) Keran Roslin
New Device: The pallets should be blazoned "wavy".

17.) Michelina Cenomani da Trento
New Name: These names are too far apart in time, unless it can be documented that "Cenomani" survived as a surname. Also, the correct locative preposition is "di", not "da".
New Device: Lontrallo: "A martini with a twist of dolphin!"

18.) Muriel inghean Giolla Comqaill
New Name: Note that "Comqaill" is a typo for "Comgaill". O'Corrain and Maguire, p.55 gives "Comgall", of which "Comgaill" is intended to be the genitive.

20.)Phillippia Coleman
New Name: Withycombe, p. 245 gives "Philippa" and "Phillippa", but no evidence for the "-ia" ending.

22.)Rolland of Hunter's Home
New Name and Device: Is "Rolland", together with horns, too suggestive of the literary Roland?

23.) Remus Fletcher
New Badge: Our consensus: "That's just not right."

Until next month we remain
