Letter of Intent #48
Heraldic Flying Circus Commenting Group

Unto Lord Dagonell Collingwood, Garnet Herald of the glorious Sylvan Kingdom of AEthelmearc, come Greetings from the Heraldic Flying Circus and Moving Company

Herewith, our report on the ILOI #AE48, dated 27 Jan 2001, from our meeting of 18 Feb 2001:

01.) AEthelmearc, Kingdom of

New Order Badge: We suggest re-blazoning as "[Fieldless], a demi-greyhound rampant contourny argent collared gules, sustaining a roundel gules charged with an escarbuncle argent."

03.) Aminah al-Raqqasah

New Name: Is al-Raqqasah the correct construction for a feminine name?

04.) Anna Malakina

Resub Device: There was some discussion whether the holes in the rustres were too big. As drawn, these look like lozenges charged with roundels. Note that if the submitter wants lozenges with roundels, they would be perfectly legal.

05.) Angus the Bull

New Name and Device: Why does Angus the Bull want a goat on his arms? Just curious...

06.) Arabella Macgrath

New Name: What does the cited entry in Black say about dates for this form?

07.) Cynthia Tower the Beloved:

New Name: The byname is improbable, at best. Beloved by whom? Everyone? The name would be just fine without it (a good cant, even!).

08.) Unless this conflicts with some historical Flemish Diederic, this name is fine.

10.) Giovanni Magrino

New Name: Does de Felice give a date for "Magrino"?

New Device: This is a correctly-drawn default lymphad, per PicDic Fig. 657, under "Ship".

13.) Jacopo di Nicolo

New Badge: As one needs four legs to ramp, this should be re-blazoned as "...a sea-lion erect...".

15. Lothar von Hügelvolk

New Name: "Lothar of the Hill People" was the title character, portrayed by Mike Meyers, in a series of "Saturday Night Live" sketches. Those of us who also remember "Theodoric of York, Medieval Barber" recognized this name instantly. If that isn't enough to return it, we must ask if there is documentation for Dutch names using "von den <topographic feature>volk".

16.)Roswitha von Pirmasens

New Name: Did she provide a copy of some ID to doc the name? And how far back does Pirmasens go?

New Device: Suggested blazon: "Per chevron azure and sable, a chevron between in dexter chief a heart and in base a tower Or." The peak on the chevron should be more pronounced.

17.) William le Forestier

New Name: If he's documenting "le Forestier" as late-period Norman, mightn't he want a more Norman given name? Something like "Guillaume", perhaps?
