8. Gawin Hawkseye.
On Hawkseye:My old (1961) Reaney p.157 under Hawksey lists William
Hauekeseye Henry 3 Colchester Essex "Hawk's eye, a nickname". As this
is not a placename it is not the St. Gabriel ref. but it should be
acceptable in itself. My old Ekwall (1960) does not have Hawkseye in
any form, so far as I can tell, though it does have a number of other
placenames with the first element "Hawk." I would presume that Hawkseye
as a placename would mean "Hawk's island."
