Æthelmearc Internal Letter of Intent Æ 62

It is the intent of the Æthelmearc College of Heralds that the following items be considered for registration. Unless otherwise noted, submitters will accept any changes.


1. Briag ap Ithel ap Maelgwyn – New device

Ermine, a wolf’s head erased contourny gules and on a chief azure three arrows argent.

His name was submitted on the July XLoI, Æ58. His previously submitted device (on the same letter) is being withdrawn; this replaces it.

2. Cassandra Pendorayl – New device

Vert, a centaur passant Or blowing a horn argent and on a chief Or three acorns proper.

3. Cernach Mac Gilla Críst – New name, New device

Per pale azure and Or, three key crosses counterchanged.

This name is intended to be masculine. The submitter requests an authentic Irish name.

Cernach is a header form in Ó Corráin & Maguire, which states that "Cernach Sotal ('the Arrogant') [was] son of the high-king Diarmait (665)."

Mac: son of.

Gilla Críst is a header form in Ó Corráin & Maguire, meaning "servant of Christ." "This name was widely used in Gaelic Ireland and, in the later Middle Ages, it was much favoured by the Mac Dermotts."

4. Katharina Jourdain – New household name House Dragon Circle, New badge

Sable, a dragon’s head couped between three annulets argent.

Her name was registered in 02/01. There is no documentation included with the submission as no appropriate resources were on hand at the consult table; can the College give us any useful suggestions?

5. Konon Pivovar – New Name, New Device

Per pale gules and sable, three dexter hands apaumy argent.

This name is intended to be masculine and Russian.

Konon is a header form in Wickenden and is dated to 1477.

Pivovar is also a header form in Wickenden and is dated to 1580.

6. Mountain Confederation – Badge change

Per fess azure and Or, a catamount passant and a triple-peaked mountain issuant from base counterchanged.

When was this name registered? If this badge passes, the old badge is to be released. As this is a quasi-group entity, a petition is included.

7. Pavla Satu Marin – New name

This name is intended to be feminine.

Pavla is a header form in Wickenden. The documentation states that this spelling is dated to 308, with other variant spellings dated to the 13th-14th centuries.

Satu Marin is a noun-based toponymic intended to mean "Person of/from Satu-Mare." The submitter has provided documentation for the existence of the town in period, but Satu-Mare is only documented as a modern name. Can anyone assist us in finding a period form of this name?
