Heather Rose Jone's article "100 Most Popular Names in Early Medieval Ireland" notes 28 occurrances of Cernach in M.A. O'Brien's Corpus Genealogiarum Hiberniae.

The CELT site, in the Annals of Ulster for 1088, lists Mac Gilla Crist maic Echtigirnn, taissech Corco Achland.

7. Pavla Satu Marin – New name

This name is intended to be feminine.

Pavla is a header form in Wickenden. The documentation states that this spelling is dated to 308 (Really! This is not a typo.) with other variant spellings dated to the 13th-14th centuries.

Satu Marin is a noun-based toponymic intended to mean “Person of/from Satu-Mare.” Satu-Mare is a modern placename. There is a Romanian Cities webpage which gives: "Satu Mare county residence; city in Biharia voivodeship (10th cent.) [sic]; documentary attestation 13th cent." A link from that site tells us (drawing from the anonymously authored Gesta Hungarorum) that the ground occupied by the modern city was originally the location of a fortified stronghold, "Castrum Zotmar," mentioned in documents dating to circa 900. In 1006, the city on this site was known as "Villa Zotmar." That’s as much as we can ferret out about this city; can anyone out there help us with formation of an appropriate period locative byname for this fine gentle?
