20 November XXXVII (2002)

Greetings unto Ailis Garnet and Roana Cornelian from Cadell Comet!

Below, please find commentary on Internal Letter AE63. Assisting me in this commentary were the two of you along with Lord Daimhin Sinna and Lord Thomas Ouswood.

Unless otherwise specified, please assume that all name documentation is as cited, and that all armory is free of conflict and style commentary.

1. Anna Dillon – Name, Device
The crescents are actually decrescents.

2. Assad de Barcelona – Name, Device
We could find no evidence of the submitted spelling before 1749. A page from Caravan-Serai Tours (http://www.caravan-serai.com/countries/syria/handbook.html) states "In the heart of the Old City [Syria], Azem Palace was built in 1749 by Assad Pasha al-Azem, Ottoman Governor of Damascus."

Her name was registered by Laurel in March 2002.

4. Colin MacWilliams – Badge

5. Finn Folhare – Name, Device
R&W also cites "Fin de Haltun" 1143-1147, giving direct evidence of "Fin" as a given name.

Her name is submitted on ILoI #64; therefore, we suggest that her device be pended and sent to Laurel on XLoI #64.

10. Robert MacMahon – Name, Device
Woulfe (s.n. Mac Mathghamhna) states "The MacMahons of Oriel were formerly one of the most powerful families in Ulster. On the decline of the O'Carrolls in the 13th century, they became lords of Oriel, a rank which they retained down to the reign of Elizabeth." It is also a header form in MacLysaght.

11. Rosalinda of Castille – Device
Her name was registered by Laurel in February 2002.

13. Valentine Graye – Name, Device
"Faire Names for English Folk: Late Sixteenth Century English Names" by Chris Laning (SCA: Christian de Holacombe) (http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/christian/fairnames/givennames.html) lists "Valentine" under Men's Names in the section headed by the phrase "additional, slightly less popular names."

"Surnames in Durham and Northumberland, 1521-1615 [Gadge-Gyllson]" by Julie Stampnitzky (http://www.yucs.org/~jules/names/parish/surnames_g.html) lists "Graye" numerous times, with dates from 1561 to 1615.
