Letter of Intent #65
Lucien d'Artois

Unto Ailis Linne, Garnet Herald, and Roana d’Evreux, Cornelian Herald, and the College of Heralds of Æthelmearc, greetings from Lucien d’Artois.

Included are my comments on the Æthelmearc Internal Letter of Intent #65, dated February 1, 2003.

1. Æthelmearc, Kingdom of
[Fieldless] On an open scroll fesswise enarched gules the words "verba volant scripta manet," overall an escallop Or.

No conflict found. The submission should include a translation of the Latin text. This badge is also fieldless with an overall charge, but according to precedent, this particular badge should be registerable, as the overall charge doesn’t obscure the underlying one.

"I've therefore decided not to implement a comprehensive ban on fieldless badges with overall charges. I will be returning cases where the underlying charge is rendered unidentifiable, per Rule VIII.3; this will include the most egregious cases of overall charges (e.g. A pheon surmounted by a hawk's head). But this can be done as an interpretation of the current Rules, and needn't involve a new policy. In cases where identifiability is maintained -- where one of the charges is a long, slender object, and the area of intersection small -- overall charges will still be permitted in fieldless badges." (Cover Letter, 11/92)

2. Arabella MacGrath.
Quarterly azure and Or, in bend sinister two fleurs-de lys azure.

<Arabella Macgrath> was registered October 2001 (via Æthelmearc). No conflict found with this device. The "in bend sinister" can be removed from the blazon. The charges will default to that position to avoid tincture violation.

3. Caireann Ó Mórdha
Per pale azure and argent, an open book between three suns counterchanged.

No conflict found with this device.

4. Eleanor Elizabeth Burgar
Per bend azure and gules, on a bend cotised Or, four wagon wheels proper.

Conflicts with Elizabeth Braidwood. [Fieldless] A bee Or. (registered November 1998 via An Tir).

Argent, two cats sejant addorsed tails entwined sable between in pale two roses proper.

No conflict found with this device.

11. Robert of Worcester
Purpure, two crosses couped Or, between a bend, within a bordure argent.

The bend is to narrow. It looks like a bendlet. No conflict found with this device.

12. Thomas von Hessen
Or, issuant from a chevron inverted gules a demi-bull azure.

The proper name should be <Thomas von Hesse>, as <Hesse> is the name of the province. The bottom point on the chevron should be lower on the escutcheon. No conflict found with this device.

Per pale gules and sable, three wolves’ teeth issuant from sinister Or.

No conflict found with this device.
