Letter of Intent #78
Comet Commenting Group

Unto Ailis Garnet, Roana Cornelian, and the AEthelmearc College of Heralds does Cadell Comet send greetings! Enclosed, please find the Comet Commentary Group's comments on Internal Letter AE78. I was assisted in the formation of this letter by THLord Kieran MacRae and Vrauw Odriana vander Brugghe.

As always, unless otherwise noted, please assume that all name documentation is sufficient and as cited, and all devices are free of conflicts and style problems.

1. Amaryllis Coleman - Badge
According to the documentation submitted, an amaryllis flower should be categorized under "Flower-Trumpet Shape." Unfortunately, it then conflicts with Winter's Gate, Barony of, "Sable, a lily blossom Or" (11/82 West), with a single CD for fieldlessness.

8. Gael Mor - Group name
We do not feel confident enough in our Gaelic grammar and vocabulary to comment on the registerability of this name. We would like to hear commentary from someone who knows more about Irish than we do.

10. Helene al-Zarqa' - Name
Given the proximity of Arabic-speaking cultures to Greece, we are relatively confident that this name should be registerable as One Step From Period Practice (which is the term the current Pelican would like to adopt as a substitute for "weirdness"). However, we would be loath to recommend this kind of cultural juxtaposition to future submitters.

16. Saerlaith the Seamstress - Name
There should be an accent over the first "a" in "Saerlaith," to match the documentation. As far as the byname is concerned, we would be much happier if a Gaelic equivalent of "the seamstress" could be found. We assume that the name is registerable as is, but would have liked to see some attempt at documentation. (Jewel notes that he was the one who wrote the Lingua Anglica rule on the submission form after receiving it from the Ice Dragon consultation table, because he felt *something*, even an acknowledgement of the lack of documentation, should have been put on the form.)

We believe this conflicts with Macsen Felinfoel, "Gules, a dragon statant erect to sinister, wings displayed argent" (10/89 East). There is definitely a CD for the field, but our best guess is that "statant erect" is rampant with both rear feet on the ground (and therefore not a CD from rampant, as only one leg is different).

17. Thescorre - Order of the Broach
Order names taken from heraldic charges are perfectly registerable; however, we ask Ravenstongue to at least note this on the forms in the future.

18. Thescorre - Order of the Black Talon
Order names of the pattern "<color> + <heraldic charge>" are perfectly registerable; however, we ask Ravenstongue to at least note this on the forms in the future.
