Letter of Intent #78
Heraldic Dismay Commenting Group

Unto the Aethelmearc College of Heralds do we of the Heraldic Dismay send warm regards.

This session of commentary was attended by Lord Egill the Dane and THL Gilles de Beauchamps. Additional commentary was supplied by THL Rosamunde of Axbridge.

It was pointed out that Lion Tyger (in the April Fool's edition of the ILOI) would conflict with Dr Lional Tiger, a famous zoologist whose speciality is in wildlife.

1) Amaryllis Coleman- badge
We believe this badge does not relect a medieval rendition of a flower, but looks quite modern, like a piece of clip-art. We think that another method of drawing the badge might make it more aesthetically fitting.

2) Bri(o)ndolfr Asgeirsson- name and device
The name and device appear sound, well constructed, and clear of conflict.

4) Catherine Sheffield- name
And a good name at that!

5) Creature Twune Dragon name and device.
The double by-name does not seem plausable to us.
The blazon spells "cabossed' instead of "caboshed" (typo?), and we think the dragon's head should be described as "affronty" as well. Clear of conflict.

6) Duncan Blackwater- new name
Another very good name.

7) Esa Baird- new device
The blazon spells "cabossed" instead of "caboshed". Clear of conflict.

8) Geal Mor, Canton of- name and device
Combining geal (Irish/gaelic) and Saxon mor does not seem to be a good idea to us. Moreover, we note that there is an Irish feminine name Mor. (O' Corrain, Donnchadh, and Maguire If they wish to be the Canton of Silver Girl, this is ok, but we do not believe that is their intention.
The device is clear of conflict.

9) Giovann di Morosini name and device
Clear of conflict.

10) Helene al Zarqa'- name and device
We are not sure that a Greek woman living under Muslim rule would have had a name constructed as such. Certainly, there were many Greeks who lived under Muslim rule, but we feel uncertain that Greek names as such would have been used in any combination with an Arabic name.
The device is quite interesting, and we not only enjoyed saying "seminimis" among ourselves, but found them to be great to look at!

11) Henri d'Artois- new alternate name Henri d'Eu
Great name.

12) Maria Adriane- new name
Very good name.

13) Maximilian Von Petsch- new name
Good name.

14) Nichola of Castile- new name
Why not use de Castil or de Castilla instead of "of"?

15) Phila OCeallaigh- new device
Clear of conflict.

16) Saerlaith the Seamstress- new name and device
The device seems clear of conflict, however we note that the dragon is not segreant, but rampant, so there appears to be a conflict between the emblazon and the blazon.
