Unto the AEthelmearc College of Arms, greetings from The Heronter
Heralds.
Heronter Herald herself is in Columbus, Ohio this weekend attending her
father's graduation from medical school. Vivat! So, we're meeting
without
her, Viva la Revolution! :D
1. Amaryllis Coleman Badge resubmission
"(Fieldless) An amaryllis flower Or seeded sable."
Normally, charges should not be drawn in a trian aspect, however since the college clearly rejected a non-trian aspect emblazon, this should be allowed.
Possible conflicts:
Karol Johanna Gartenheit [December of 2001 (via Caid)]
"(Fieldless) A jonquil blossom bell to chief Or."
Winter's Gate, Barony of [November of 1982 (via the West)]
"Sable, a lily blossom Or." (for the Order of the Gilded Lily)
In both cases, the primary charge is a trumpet shaped flower. We count only 1 CD for fieldless. Comparison will have be made to determine if they are visually distinct.
2. Br{o,}nd¢lfr Asgeirsson New name, New device
"Gules, a stone throwing hammer and on a chief argent two ravens sable."
Possible conflict:
Thorfinn of Deodar [February of 2002 (via Calontir)]
"Per fess argent and gules, a bird displayed wings inverted sable and
a Thor's hammer argent."
Technically, there's a difference of field, and the submission has as primaries the hammer and the chief with the ravens are tertiaries. while the registered device has the bird and hammer as primaries. Visually however, they are remarkably similar.
We figure, by worst case scenario, that if the fields were actually identical, there would be differences for number and position of birds, therefore they're probably clear.
4. Catherine Sheffield New name
Cigfran: "Completely undocumentable."
Catherine: "But, but, ..."
Dagonell: "Obviously the name of her Dungeons and Dragons character."
Catherine: "but, but, ..."
Bjorn: "Straight from fantasy novels."
Michelle (Catherine's daughter): *snigger* *giggle* :D
5. Creature Twyne Dragon New name, New device
Given the documentation, we think "Creature Twyne atte Dragon" would be a slightly better choice.
"Sable, a dragon's head cabossed argent."
Clear of:
Dragonsspine, Barony of (9180C)
"(Fieldless) A dragon's head cabossed purpure."
Dunstan of Lewisham (9007C)
"Quarterly azure and argent, a dragon's head caboshed Or."
In both cases, we count 1 CD for fieldless, and 1 CD for tincture.
6. Duncan Blackwater New name
A perfectly good Scottish name.
7. Esa Baird New device
"Gules, on a pale Or between two gillyflowers argent three owl's heads cabossed gules."
No conflicts found.
8. Geal Mor, Canton of New name, New device
We have problems with the name. The Gramadach Lexicon (http://www.ceantar.org) gives "geal" as "bright", "airgead" as "silver, money". We're familar with "mor" as meaning "big", as in "claymor" meaning "sword-big". A little reverse indexing found "l{'a}irig" meaning "moor". Our suggestion for translating "Silvery Moor" would be "Airgead{u'}il L{'a}irig". However, we're having trouble picturing how this name would come about. The silver metal generally isn't mined from swampland and poetic descriptives like "The Emerald Isle" for Ireland are, as far as we know, post-period.
"Per chevron sable and vert, a chevron between in chief three lozenges argent and in base a laurel wreath Or."
No conflicts found.
9. Giovanna di Morosini New name, New device
We agree with Aryanhwy, either "Giovanna di Morosino" or "Giovanna Morosini" would be better.
"Azure, an ivy leaf and on a chief Or three roses sable."
No conflicts found.
10. Helene al-Zarqa' New name, New device
The name as documented is "one weir////step from period practice". :D Actually, we think it's quite plausible.
"Azure, a dance between three semiminmis Or."
No conflicts found, and yes, we're aware this is "dance music". :D
11. Henri d'Artois New alternate name Henri d'Eu
We're curious. Is it common in the SCA for your main persona and your alternate persona to have the same first name?
13. Maximilian Von Petsch New name
Herald of Record: Dagonell
I bow to Aryanhwy's superior knowledge. Lord Otfrid, our resident German expert, was busy with another submitter at the time. -- Dagonell
14. Nichola of Castile New name
We're coming up with "Nicola" rather than "Nic_h_ola". Spanish doesn't seem to have the "ch" usage. We agree that a more period spelling of Castile should be used. We recommend "Nicola de Castil" be forwarded to Laurel.
15. Phiala O'Ceallaigh New device
"Vert, a fret and overall a mascle argent."
No conflicts found.
16. Saerlaith the Seamstress New name, New device
"Per bend vert and sable, a dragon sergeant contourny argent maintaining a spool of thread argent threaded vert."
For those who were not at Ice Dragon, the lady's merchant logo has the dragon holding the spool somewhat lower, as if he were pushing the spool down onto the black portion of the field, hence "some discrepancies in drawing". :D
17. Thescorre, Barony of New order name Order of the Broach, New badge
"Argent, in base two bars wavy azure overall a penannular broach pin open to base sable."
No conflicts found.
18. Thescorre, Barony of New order name Order of the Black Talon, New badge
"Argent, a talon sable and in base two bars wavy azure."
No conflicts found. We're not sure the talon is a recognizable charge. Dagonell thought it was an eagle head, Cigfran thought it was a hammer head.
In service,
