ÆTHELMEARC COLLEGE OF HERALDS - commentary archive
Letter of Intent #82
Sexi Lovechild

Greetings!

Some commentary from S. Lovechild, who is not to be confused with Roana d'Evreux. :)

1. Ælfgyfu seo hearpestre – Resubmitted device
Azure, a cross raguly argent between a harp Or and three geese rising wings elevated and addorsed argent.

Sexi: Looks clear; note this is not simple heraldry.

2. Æthelmearc, Kingdom of – New badge
Or, a pall gules between three dog’s paw prints sable.

Sexi: Clear of Ceridwen ferch Rhys ap Michael (Or, a shakefork between three quatrefoils gules). CD’s for type and color of secondaries; maybe a CD for shakefork (couped) vs. pall.

3. Alaric Parthenay – New name, New device
Vert, three hearts Or.

Sexi: Device is in conflict with Annabella of Lochwinnoch (Purpure, three hearts Or). No comment on the name.

4. Delftwood, Barony of – New order name Order of the Capstan, New badge
(Fieldless) A cog wheel per bend azure and argent.

Sexi: Name and badge both look clear. No comment on the appropriateness of the name.

5. Delftwood, Barony of – New order name Order of the Millguard, New badge
(Fieldless) A saltire moline gyronny argent and azure.

Sexi: Name and badge both look clear. Nice doco for “millguard” but no comments on the appropriateness of the name.

6. Delftwood, Barony of – New order name Order of the Mistral, New badge
(Fieldless) A mistral contourny argent.

Sexi: Name and badge both look clear. Mistral is the term for a female aeolus, according to the Pic Dic.

7. Eldjarn Sveinnbildr – New name, New device
Quarterly sable and argent, two double-bitted axes in saltire counterchanged.

Sexi: Name and device look clear.

8. Elena Tailleur – New name, New device
Argent, a dragon segreant vert and on a chief embattled gules a needle argent conjoined by the thread to a full yarn quill Or.

Sexi: Name and device look clear. Device needs to be redrawn - the dragon is puny; the needle is neither palewise nor bendwise sinister, &c.

9. Hunter's Home, Shire of – Administrative Action

Sexi: Their old device (Purpure, three chalices within a laurel wreath Or) is still conflict-free. I support their petition.

10. Kj{o,}tvi Thorgrimsson – New device
Per pale sable and argent, two axes crossed in saltire between two wolf’s heads erased respectant all counterchanged.

Sexi: Device looks clear.

11. Robert Peel – New name

Sexi: While I don't have Britannica access here, I did find a Robert Peel Sr, 1750-1830, and Robert Peel Jr, 1788-1850 who was a British politician of some note in his time. He was heavily involved in the political aspects of the Catholic-Protestant conflict in Ireland; he reformed London’s police force and his name (i.e. Robert) gave rise to the slang term “Bobbie” for a policeman. While I didn't *know* any
of this before I went looking, the name "Robert Peel" set off alarms in my head as soon as I saw it. Any other thoughts as to whether Robert Peel, Jr. is an important enough person to protect?

12. Roland of Foxes Glen– New name, New device
Per chevron inverted sable and gules, in chief a hunting horn reversed argent.

Sexi: Name and device look clear.

13. Tywyll Coetir, Shire of – New name, New device
Argent, a tree blasted and eradicated sable within a laurel wreath vert, on a chief sable three mullets argent.

Sexi: Device looks clear. Needs to be redrawn - the laurel wreath is insufficiently circular, and the chief is way too small; furthermore it's not even drawn on the standard escutcheon, but has been roughly markered onto another piece of paper and taped to a submissions form. I can provide no documentation for the name.
