Æthelmearc Letter of Report Æ84
January 1, 2004

Many thanks to December's commenters: Aimeric de Mireval, Antonio de Luna, Aryanhwy Boke, Caitlin of Heronter, Catherine Sheffield, Cigfran Caer Gwalch, Dagonell Whitehorn, Egill Scarlet Guard, Gilles Keystone, Leonor Farfan, Michelle of the Manor Meow, Myfanwy, Rosamunde of Axbridge, and Thorvald of Heckla.

The items accepted in this letter have been forwarded to Laurel on XLoI Æ83/84 (January 25); they will be decided on in May 2005.

1. Angels Keep, Canton of - New name accepted, New device returned

Azure, on a bend between a vol and a tower argent a laurel wreath vert.

Originally submitted as Angel's Keep, the apostrophe was not used to denote possession in English in the Middle Ages and so we have removed it.

Unfortunately, this device is in conflict with Franz Joder von Joderhübel (Azure, on a bend between two doves argent a serpent glissant vert) and Anne of Flaming Gryphon (Azure, on a bend between two horse's heads couped argent a deadly nightshade vine vert flowered purpure). Since Angels Keep's device is not simple armory, it is not eligible for RfS X.4.j.ii. Thus, in each case there is one CD for changing the type of the secondary charges, but no CD for changing the type only of the tertiary charge.

2. Blackwater, Shire of - New device accepted

Sable, a laurel wreath Or within a bordure engrailed argent gouty de poix.

3. Brocc Huntington - New badge accepted

(Fieldless) An eagle displayed head to sinister per pale gules and sable.

4. Byrghitta Ksiazka - New name and device accepted

Vert crusily Cleves argent, a hare courant Or.

Submitted as Byrghitta Ksiazska, a closer reading of available documentation suggests that the z and s would not both be retained in a locative byname, and we have dropped the s accordingly.

Commenters expressed concern about the lack of uniformity among the crosses. We have redrawn the device to clarify it and to address these concerns.

5. Dyfan filius Idris - Resubmitted name and device accepted

Per pale vert and sable, a chevron raguly on the upper edge and in base three roundels two and one argent.

6. Fiona inghean Léid - New name and device accepted

Gyronny of six Or and gules, a dog passant and a chief dovetailed sable.

This device was submitted on old (i.e. obsolete) forms; furthermore there were some concerns with the drawing itself. We have transferred the submission to current forms and redrawn it to address commenters' concerns.

7. Isolda filia Georgii - New device accepted

Argent, a peacock in his pride proper and in chief two columbine flowers purpure slipped and leaved stems to center vert.

8. Juliana Delamere - New device accepted

Argent, a bend purpure between a raven volant bendwise sinister sable and a flame gules.

We had some concerns about the drawing of the device; although we were initially inclined to send up the drawing as-is, Wreath has been picky enough that we thought it might be wise to clarify the drawing as much as possible.

9. Lillian of Hartstone - New name and device accepted

Purpure, an elephant statant argent.

10. Maximilian Petsch - Resubmitted name and new device accepted

Per fess embattled gules and azure, a demi-horse issuant from the line of division argent.

11. Muireann ingen uí Muirchertaig - Resubmitted device accepted

Vert, a doe couchant between three oak trees eradicated argent.

12. Niccola di Cristiano - New name and device accepted

Per pale Or and sable, in pale three Maltese crosses counterchanged.

13. Vivienne of Yardley - New name and device accepted

Argent gouty de sang, a unicorn rampant contourny sable and a base embattled vert.

We have redrawn the device in response to commenters' concerns.
