Letter of Intent #88
Heronter Heralds Commenting Group
Unto Garnet Herald, Lord Christopher Harper, greetings from the Heronter
Heralds, a division of the Heraldic Flying Circus and Moving Company,
West.
Herein are our comments on ILoI AE88.
1. Aleksander Regulanka - New name, New device
"The University of Buffalo has an entire room dedicated to Polish
history.
I will check later this week and see if I can find anything." --
Dagonell
"Per bend sable and argent, a decresent and a hound dormant
counterchanged."
Clear of:
Morgan Kildarby "Per fess argent and sable, a crescent and a wolf
rampant
counterchanged".
(1 CVD for field, 2 CVD for changes of position to both charges)
According to the given websites, the gender of Alide is female.
"Azure, a castle and on a chief rayonny argent three elm trees couped
vert."
Possible Conflict:
Jenna Fairhaven "Azure, a triple-towered castle and on a chief wavy
argent,
three dragonflies purpure."
(0 for field, 0 for primary, 1 CVD for tertiaries, and we're not sure
whether wavy vs. rayonny is a full point)
Clear of:
Michelle of Thescorre "Azure, a castle and on a chief argent, three
frogs sejant azure."
(0 for field, 0 for primary, 1 CVD for tertiaries, 1 CVD for partition)
Isabel of Rosley "Azure, a castle and on a chief embattled argent, three
roses proper."
(0 for field, 0 for primary, 1 CVD for tertiaries, 1 CVD for partition)
Wilhelm de Wieselhunter "Azure, a castle and on a chief triangular
argent,
a weasel statant to sinister azure."
(0 for field, 0 for primary, 1 CVD for tertiaries, 1 CVD for partition)
>From the given website:
"While computing the starting and ending dates for the alphabetical
listings
I treated undated (census) names as though their date was as low as
1400 or
as high as 1550, where appropriate. Thus a census name is earlier than a
name dated 1417 and it is later thana name dated 1547. This is only used
while computing the alphabetical listings."
This actually means the name is undated. The same site lists
"Ant_h_onius"
as 1584 and "Anthonio" as 1597.
"Per pale purpure and Or, a pair of jointed trews vairy potent azure
and argent"
No conflicts as there are no other trews in the SCA Armorial. Please
reblazon as: "Per pale purpure and Or, a pair of jointed trews potent."
5. Arianwen verch Rhys ap Gwalter - New name, New device
"Azure, a pine tree and on a chief argent three arrows point to chief
azure."
The chief line missing on the black and white emblazon
Possible conflict:
Anneke Grove of Scambanden "Azure, three trees and on a chief argent
three
lozenges azure."
(0 CVD for field, 0 CVD for chief, 0 CVD for tertiaries, 1 CVD for
number,
and we're not sure if 'pine tree' vs. 'trees' is worth a full point.)
We respectfully disagree with Lady Aurenca, Eric and Einar are two
completely different names.
"Gules, a squirrel per fess Or and azure."
Clear of:
Cecilia del Canto "Gules, a squirrel argent between three bezants."
(1 CVD for tincture, 1 CVD for secondaries)
Ismay of Giggleswick "Gules, two squirrels sejant erect respectant
vair-en-point maintaining in chief a nut Or."
(1 CVD for number, 1 CVD for tincture, the nut is a maintained charge
and
not worth a point of difference.)
Sfthmaith ingen Uidir "Gules a squirrel statant erect argent sustaining
an arrow inverted and a bordure rayonny Or."
(1 CVD for tincture, 1 CVD for bordure, again the arrow is a maintained
charge and not worth a point of difference.)
"of AEthelmearc"??? Considering we're a kingdom, isn't that like trying
to register "Henry of England"? It sounds just a bit pretenious to us.
"Per saltire vert and argent, in fess two ravens close respectant
sable."
Clear of:
Caw ap Rhys "Or, two ravens close respectant sable between three
torques
gules." (1 CVD for field, 1 CVD for secondaries)
Anthony Iron Skull "Erminois, two ravens close respectant a bordure
dovetailed
sable." (1 CVD for field, 1 CVD for bordure)
Ellisif Arngunnardottir "Or, two ravens close respectant sable
maintaining
between them a crescent gules, all within an orle sable."
(1 CVD for field, 1 CVD for orle, the crescent is a maintained charge
and
not worth a point of difference.)
We agree with Lady Aurenca regarding the conflict with Rivka Vlad
Rivkina
"Per pall Or, vert and sable." as per RfS X.4.a, however to make things
simpler ...
Conflict with:
Eleonor von Lübeck "Lozengy argent and vert, a chief vert."
(1 CVD for field)
"Or, an apple tree gules fructed Or, on a chief gules a crescent
between
two roundels all Or."
The tree is eradicated
Conflict with:
Hirsch Ross Eichman "Or, an oak tree fructed proper and on a chief
gules
three stag's attire Or."
(0 CVD for field, 1 CVD for tincture, 0 CVD for chief, 0 CVD for
tertiaries)
For a point of difference in tertiaries, you need to change two of type,
number or tincture. This is only a change of type.
"Per pale azure and argent, a vol counterchanged."
I.P.P.I. -- It's Pretty, Pass It! :D No conflicts found.

14. Finn Folhare - New badge
"(fieldless) A brown onager rampant proper within and conjoined to a
joscelyn wreathed gules and ermine belled Or."
"Fieldless" needs to be capitalized. If a 'brown onager' is a variety of
onager, as 'black bear' is a variety of bear, then O.K., but if brown is
just one of the colors taht onagers could be, then it is inappropriate
to
speak of a 'brown onager proper', it should be one of the standard
heraldic
tinctures.
"(Fieldless) A trefoil per pale vert and ermine argent with sable."
The trefoil is pierced. Reblazon as: "(Fieldless) A trefoil pierced per
pale
vert and ermine."
Clear of:
Lochac, Kingdom of "(Fieldless) A cinquefoil per pale vert and argent."
(For the Order of the Rowan) (1 CVD for fieldless, 1 CVD for 1/2
tincture)
Catriona Muireaghan of Carlingford "(Fieldless) A shamrock per pale vert
and argent." (1 CVD for fieldless, 1 CVD for 1/2 tincture)
"Per fess wavy Or and purpure, two dragons sejant counterchanged."
Clear, but reminiscent of :
Luca Sacchetti "Per pale wavy argent and gules, two dragons sejant
respectant
counterchanged." (1 CVD for field, 1 CVD for orientation)
"Sable, a raremouse between three fleaurs-de-lys one and two Or."
The charge is a r_e_remouse.
Clear of:
Vratislav Netopier
"Barry bendy argent and purpure, a reremouse displayed Or."
(1 CVD for field, 1 CVD for secondaries)
First, the blazon should be "Purpure, a rose argent slipped vert."
Second,...
Conflict with:
York, House of|9412L|b|(Fieldless) A rose argent.|(Important non-SCA
badge)
(1 CVD for field)
"Gules, on a chevron between three estoiles Or three lozenges sable."
Clear of:
Marc d'Aubigny "Sable on a chevron between three fleurs-de-lys Or, three
lozenges gules."
(1 CVD for field, 1 CVD for secondaries, 0 CVD for tertiaries)
"Purpure, a bird of paradise displayed Or, on a chief argent a
broadsword
fesswise sable."
Clear of:

(1 CVD for tincture, 1 CVD for tertiaries)
"Sable, two natural panthers combatant and on a point pointed argent a
