Letter of Intent #92 Giudo di Niccolo
Brunelleschi
Giudo di Niccolo
Brunelleschi February 2, 2006 Unto Christopher Garnet and Alheydis
Cornelian do I
send greetings.I beg leave to offer
this letter of comment on the current internal letter of intent (AE92): 1) Clarice Roan (Name – New, Device –
New) The blazon for this device should read:
“Per fess
azure and argent, a dove rising wings inverted argent sustaining in its
claws a
serpent embowed counter-embowed gules.” I fear this device may be mistaken to be
in
conflict with another: “Per fess azure and argent, in chief a
dove rising
and in base three lozenges, all counterchanged.” Registered to David of
Bagulay
(Sept 1973). I only count 1 CD for changing the
“three lozenges”
to “a serpent embowed counter-embowed”. If my memory is serving me
correctly,
only 1 CD is granted for changes made to changing co-primary charges,
no matter
how many changes are actually made (ie: posture, type of charge,
tincture).
However, at the same time, this device should qualify as “simple
armory” and
having changed at least half of the charges should be sufficient to
clear this.
3) Katerin Douglas Als’ Alexander (Name
– New,
Device – New) Firstly, the URL for the name citation
should read
as: http://www.s-gabriel.org/2794
(the preferred format of URL’s for any Academy final reports). Based on
this
Academy letter, I feel comfortable with this name, even though I have
not been
able to find a citation for this particular spelling of <Katerin>
in any
English or Scottish sources I have access to. The blazon for the device should read: “
Per
chevron rayonny sable and gules, a phoenix and in chief three
flames
Or.” Additionally, I personally find the way
these
flames are drawn hard to identify them as flames. They look more like
misshapen
leaves or half of a rack of antlers. I’d suggest a redraw to make this
set of
charges clearer for identifiability purposes. 5) Sabina de Lyons (Household Name –
New, Badge –
New) Submitted Household Name: House Laughing
Fox The rendering of this badge sadly looks
cartoonish,
and my first reaction was “Is a kangaroo head a period charge?” I pray that these comments may be of use
to the
AEthelmearc College of Heralds. Until the next time, Signore Giudo di
Niccolo Brunelleschi Shire of Deodar,
Kingdom of Calontir Deodar Pursuivant
& Armorialist
