Heronter Heralds
Commenting Group
Unto Garnet Herald, Cornelian Herald, and the Aethelmearc College of Arms;
Greetings from the Heronter Heralds, a division of the Heraldic Flying
Circus and Moving Company, Southwest.
Herewith, our commentary on AE97, dated July 5, 2006.
1.) A'sta Vagensd¢ttir -- New Name, New Device
Does Geirr Bassi cite an 'e' form? If not, she has to go with the documented
form.
"Azure, two bars Or, overall an owl displayed argent."
Clear of:
Name: Michael Maggotslayer
Date: January 2001
Kingdom: Atenveldt
Type: Device
Blazon: Azure, a European owl [Bubo bubo] displayed, wingtips inverted,
proper grasping in its talons a lightning bolt bendwise sinister Or.
(1 CD for bars, 1 CD for Or vs argent owl)
2.) Creature Tywne Dragon -- Resubmitted Device
"Per pale argent and sable semy of fishhooks counterchanged."
No conflicts found.
We respectfully agree with Aryanhwy merch Catmael in principle, but disagree
in this specific. In a case like "Per pale azure and gules, a semy of
fishhooks argent.", you would need to need to specify 'throughout' or
'all semy' to indicate that the semy is across both dark tinctures. However,
we feel that the word 'counterchanged' indicates that the charge it refers
to is crossing the line of division by its very definition. Therefore,
'counterchanged' serves the purpose that 'throughout' would otherwise be
needed for.
3.) Desiderata Drake -- New Name, New Device
"Per chevron azure and vert, two ducks naiant argent and a goose close Or."
No conflicts found.
We agree with Aryanhwy merch Catmael in this case, the device is a violation
of the "Sword and Dagger" rule. By chance, is the submitter a child? We
caught the drake cant, but we were trying to figure out why a goose was on
the shield and the best we could come up with was "Duck, Duck, Goose", a
children's game.
4.) Ma'el-du'in O'Donn -- New Name, New Device
"Per bend sinister gules and argent, two foxes sejant respectant
counterchanged."
We note that the emblazon is not recoverable from the blazon. If I was
given this as an AoA scroll, I would draw the foxes in fess with the left
fox having a red body and white feet and the right fox having a red head
and white body.
